Waiting for Reboot Screen redsn0w 0.8 iPhone OS 3.0

I've recently jailbroken my iPhone 3G running OS 3.0 using redsn0w 0.8 from the iPhone-dev team. The instructions provided in the application are pretty straightforward but I ran into trouble with my phone.

The installer would pause at a screen labeled "Waiting for Reboot" and hang there. The fix was found here.

1. When the screen "Waiting for Reboot" comes up, unplug the usb cable from your iPhone
2. The iPhone screen will flash white for a second
3. Plug the USB cable back into the bottom of the iPhone

redsn0w will now happily continue, it will take a few more minutes for everything to happen but you'll have visual cues on screen on both the computer and iPhone.

Enjoy!

How to poll a Linux Based Router for NetDisco

We wanted to use NetDisco to monitor/manage our network, but our main router is a Linux box with a couple of interfaces. NetDisco won't poll the Linux Router without a slight modification.

Here are the steps:

1. Install net-snmp packages on your Linux Router, refer to your distro's instructions for how to do this.

2. Configure net-snmp so you can poll it, http://forums.cacti.net/about15353.html is a good how-to.

3. Test your configuration: From the netdisco server run: snmpwalk -v 1 -c

If this returns results, you're in business.

4. On your Linux Router, add sysservices 76 to snmpd.conf and restart snmpd.

5. Discover the device in NetDisco, use the web interface or run: /usr/local/netdisco/netdisco -d it should be able to poll it now.

If NetDisco fails to poll you Linux router, check your community string settings and make sure everything matches.
